003-Hawaii Five-O. Then and Now

Looks like the past is revisiting 2010. Pretty much something like blast from the past! We already have 90210 which was a remake of the olden Beverly Hills 90210. Well in today's post I would like to talk about the legendary television series Hawaii Five-O (1968-1980) that made a comeback. Like the original version, it follows an elite unit that was set-up to fight crime in the state of Hawaii. The latest cast line-up consists of Alex O'Loughlin as Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett, Scott Caan as Danny "Danno" Williams, Daniel Dae Kim as Chin Ho Kelly, and Grace Park as Kono Kalakaua.

Before discussing further on the latest version of Hawaii Five-O, let us take a stroll down memory lane. The reason why the original show was a huge catch and manage to last 12 season is because its signature style.  Most people remember only three things about the show: its theme music, Jack Lord’s triumphant catchphrase “Book ‘em, Danno!,” and Lord’s haircut which waved like the surrounding palm trees.

Many would think that new Hawaii Five-O is just another gussied up TV re-launch. However, Hawaii's premier episode was fun and unexpectedly swift. The action sequences were well choreographed, so far. Moreover, O’Loughlin has come most alive when he was engaged in the premiere’s close-quarters, elbow-chopping fight scene.
There is no point of me praising this show if you my readers do not check it out for yourself. So head of to your couch, get the remote and press channel 701 (AXN) every Tuesday 10pm,
Cheers,

002-USA TV more gay friendly

I found this article entitled as above very very interesting and enlightening. Therefore, I decided to use this topic as my post for the week. Just so you readers know, I picked out this article from The Star, 14th Nov 2010, Starmag section. Homosexuality has always been a taboo in our society especially in the Asian culture. It is considered an social illness and homosexuals are often shunned and ostracized. However, things are taking a 180 degrees turn and people especially the youths are becoming more open about homosexuality. How can I prove this? Well, the latest trend that the media and entertainment industry is picking up is a good example.

"The Good Wife" is getting a gay brother, the show "Hellcats" features a lesbian cheerleader and many more. The number of lesbians, bisexuals, gays and trans-gender characters on prime time US television is growing.

Second from left: Glee star Chris Colfer who plays a gay teenager
(Kurt) and he is also gay in real life

-"Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) president Jarrett Barrios said that the increase in gay and lesbian characters on TV reflects the shift in American culture towards greater awareness and understanding of our community"-excerpt of the The Star

The recent success of shows like Modern Family, Glee and Ugly Betty are obvious indicators that the audience are beginning to embrace homosexuality as something OK.

The bullock-cart days are over. We are living in the era where streets are adorned by Maseratis and Z4s. If we can advance in technology and science, why can't we advance our mentality and be open to change. Americans have open their arms to gays and lesbians and have began to treat them as an equal. Therefore, it is high time for us to come to terms with homosexuality for the better good.

Cheers!
