Adios! Betty

We had our box of tissues ready for this very last installment of one our favorite shows - Ugly Betty. Like they say, all good things must come to an end, and yes, Betty is in fact history!

Overall, "Hello Goodbye" did wrap up each of our beloved characters lives in a nice pretty bow, but how bummed were you that there wasn't even a kiss between Daniel and Betty!? They literally waited until the last 40 seconds to show him go to London for her!
At least we can say we were right about that!
But, C'Mon! We wanted MORE! We wanted the dramatically romantic ending where Daniel sweeps Betty off of her feet professing his love to her in front of all her new British friends and giving her a kiss that gives hope to all the ugly Betties of the world that you can get the dream guy. That would have made the show.
Although, we do have to say it was much more of a realistic ending. Especially since Betty would/could not believe that Daniel had feelings for her. It was funny to see her look at Claire with such surprise. Hello Blondie! Get with the program, right?!

We know we should have probably expected it, but we were happily surprised by Connor's return. He really loves Wilhelmina and the spoilers were right - Wilhelmina did have the best ending. She got everything she always longed for - love and being the main editor of Mode. Hopefully, with all the happiness this ending brought her, she will be a nicer boss - we doubt it, but here's to hope!
The one person we feel badly for is Ignacio. The show ended with him all alone in his house. He tells his daughters that he wants them to be happy and to live their lives, but we know that he will be quite lonely. It had to be a difficult choice Hilda made about moving. On one end you don't want to leave your father that raised and let you take shelter at his home for so long, but on the other end, it was time for Hilda to start her own family with Justin and Bobby. When you are a parent, it must be the most difficult thing to let your children spread their wings and fly away. Hopefully, Ignacio will be okay!
Both Amanda and Marc ended finding the love that they always craved - Amanda being the love of a father and Marc allowing himself to actually romantically care for someone. These two really brought tears of happiness to our eyes!
What happened with Tyler? We know he was a rather new character to the show, but he still was Claire's son - who shot Wilhelmina! There was no resolution between him and Claire. We think that was another loose end the writers decided to leave out that needed to be resolved. What do you think?
All in all we will severely miss Ugly Betty. Perhaps one day they will make a special about Betty in London or something. We hate that after all these years of waiting to see Daniel and Betty get together - all we get is a conversation about dinner!
What did you think of the series finale? Did it live up to everything you hoped it to be? Were you happy with how Daniel and Betty semi got together?
 Leave your comments below!
Don't forget to follow the jump to read our favorite Ugly Betty quotes from last night's final episode!
Wilhelmina: I never thought I'd say this, but you have big balls Betty Suarez.
Betty: That is the nicest thing you said to me.
Wilhelmina: Go ahead and unclench everything. We are good. Well as good as we can be.
Claire: Really?
Wilhelmina: Yes really Claire.
Daniel: Me first Betty, I can't live without you.
Betty: Hey, if you want something to do, I am looking for a new assistant.
Daniel: Well, maybe I will submit my resume.
Wilhelmina: Well I guess you know me better than I know myself. Now flap those bat wings of yours and get out.
Wilhelmina: I've spent my entire life fighting for a magazine when I should have been fighting for you.
Justin: B, how could you move to London, won't you miss all the kidnapping, shooting, and murder at Mode?
Betty: No, not really.

Mad Men

There were seven deadly sins practiced at the dawn of the 1960s: smoking, drinking, adultery, sexism, homophobia, anti-Semitism and racism. In its first few minutes “Mad Men” on AMC taps into all of them. This new drama set in the golden age of Madison Avenue serves as a bridge to a faded and now forbidden world.
Men wore white shirts, drank Manhattans and harassed compliant secretaries in the elevator. Everybody read Reader’s Digest. Jews worked in Jewish advertising agencies, blacks were waiters and careful not to seem too uppity, and doctors smoked during gynecological exams. Women were called “girls.” Men who loved men kept it to themselves.

The magic of “Mad Men” is that it softly spoofs those cruel, antiquated mores without draining away the romance of that era: the amber-lit bars and indigo nightclubs, soaring skyscrapers, smoky railway cars and the brash confidence that comes with winning a war and owning the world. It’s a sardonic love letter to the era that wrought “The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit” and “The Best of Everything,” but homage is paid with more affection than satire.
Matthew Weiner, who was a producer and writer on “The Sopranos,” created “Mad Men” and lends it some of the HBO show’s wit, apt music and sumptuous cinematography. Most of all the series walks the line between tongue-in-cheek knowingness and know-it-all parody.
The advertising executives, who called themselves “mad men,” were at the front of the consumer rat race, hypnotizing the American buyer with huckster campaigns created off-the-cuff in smoky meeting rooms or on a cocktail napkin at El Morocco. The advertising business was flush, blissfully unburdened by aging readerships, failing newspapers, DVRs or the Internet, and only barely accountable to the federal government or public opinion.

And that kind of unbridled freedom is the series’s one speck of sentiment, evoking nostalgia for a time before the current audience-knows-best rule of business, in which viewers vote on who gets to become a pop star, publishers ask readers to choose their authors, and politicians ask viewers to decide what issues they should discuss, as is the plan in next week’s live Democratic debate, a joint project between CNN and YouTube. When Don Draper (Jon Hamm), the suave creative director of the Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency, receives consumer data from the research director that suggests there is no way to avoid addressing Americans’ concerns about the health risks of smoking, Don coolly drops the report in his wastepaper basket.
But Don knows he has a problem. Reader’s Digest says smoking causes cancer, and the Federal Trade Commission won’t allow tobacco companies to suggest there are “safer” brands of cigarettes anymore. Lucky Strike is one of his top accounts. “All I have is a crushproof box and ‘Four out of five dead people smoke your brand,’ ” he complains to his mistress (Rosemarie DeWitt).
She goes by the quaintly dated name Midge, but has her own career as an illustrator and a modern view of love and sex. “You know the rules,” she tells Don as she hands him his wristwatch after their postcoital cigarette. “I don’t make plans, and I don’t make breakfast.”
Midge and the Lucky Strike account are just a few of the many challenges in Don’s life, though his trusting wife and two children tucked away in the suburbs do not appear to be among them.
Mad Men won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series, 2009

The boss, Roger Sterling (John Slattery), wants Don to handle a new client, Rachel Menken (Maggie Siff), whose Jewish family owns a department store. Before the first meeting Roger asks Don to bring in a Jewish colleague to make her more “comfortable.” Don says there aren’t any, and is surprised to enter the room and find himself being introduced to David Cohen. ( “I had to go all the way to the mailroom,” Roger murmurs, “but I found one.”)
Don is put off by Rachel’s tony aspirations and high-handed manner. “I’m not going to let a woman talk to me like this,” he says, before storming out.
The younger, hungrier junior executives who aspire to taking over his corner office are also a worry. The worst is Paul, a slimy 26-year-old account executive engaged to a rich girl and constantly looking for a chance to outshine Don. (The show also owes a lot to “What Makes Sammy Run?”)
Sadly to say that Mad Men is not showing in our Malaysian TV but don't fret. The Internet is our tv crisis saviour. Just log into your faithful online TV and start getting mad about Mad Men
Cheers!

Blair + Dan = ?

Gossip Girl fans -- prepare yourselves for a new love triangle! In a shocking twist of events, rumors have been confirmed that sparks will definitely be flying between Blair Waldorf & Dan Humphrey when the hit drama returns in a few weeks.  We have a feeling Serena Van Der Woodsen is not going to be too pleased about this new pairing.

Executive Producer Stephanie Savage revealed that “The Dan and Blair connection is something that’s been there from the earliest episodes,” she said. "Their relationship to Serena, and the degree to which they’re polar opposites and represent everything that the other hates, makes their dynamic really charged. At the same time, they are characters that have a lot in common. They are the most book-smart characters. They share a lot of the same interests," added Savage.

It all started when Blair and Dan become closer whilst taking Juliet down for Serena. Whilst that was there initial bond it becomes clear that over Christmas they started to go out together, watching movies at the same time, in the same place but separately.

As the season continues Dan and Blair become closer, they start to talk more and meet up. Dorota is the first to find out about their meetings and assumes they are having an affair which they are not. Both are hesistant to tell people especially when Rufus admits he was worried that Dan could have been spending time with someone like Blair. In the episode 'Empire of the Son'; Blair finds Dan in her entranceway just getting out of the elevator. She asks him what he was doing there and he admits he was wondering if they were more than friends. In the closing shot the two are kissing.
Curious to know how all of this comes to picture? Let's watch a clip from the latest episode
What's next? I DONT KNOW MYSELF! Even moi as an avid gossip girl follower will have to wait till April 18th to find out.

Dont Stop Believing!

First and foremost, I apologise for abandoning my blog for ages. Sorry! Its purely because I have a lot of things going out this past 1 month. The holidays were good and I wish all my faithful readers a very Happy New Year! Lets get back to business. In today's post I'd like to talk about the very much hyped TV series of 2010, GLEE!

There are countless ways to characterize “Glee”: “Election” with music, “Bring It On” meets “High School Musical,” or even a lunchroom version of “The Breakfast Club.” The success of a high school comedy doesn’t lie in its originality, but in how cleverly it contorts the classic formula. “Glee,” a new series on Fox, is blissfully unoriginal in a witty, imaginative way. Glee is a musical comedy-drama television series that airs on Fox in the United States. It focuses on the high school glee club, New Directions competing on the show choir competition circuit, while its members deal with relationships, sexuality and social issues.

The pilot tells the whole tale: the handsome star quarterback, Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith), secretly loves to sing and risks rejection by the cool kids to join the glee club, which is small and made up of unpopular, unattractive misfits. Then we have Lea Michele who stands out as Rachel Berry, the talented and monstrously ambitious self-promoting star singer of the glee club.

The other glee club members are high school archetypes: the quiet Asian girl, the prissy gay boy, the scrawny nerd with big glasses (here, in wheelchair) and a tough, heavy-set African-American girl, Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley), who resents singing backup.
Mr. Will Schuester played by Matthew Morrison is McKinley High's Spanish teacher and also the coach of Glee Club.
However, Glee Club doesnt gets around the school easily. Students look down on the new club and give the members no support. The number glee nemesis is none other than Coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lycnh) She hated Glee Club for causing the cut of the annual school budget that was meant for her cheer-leading team, Cheerios. The story goes on and on, so instead of me blabbering to you what is Glee all about, why not you folks use this weekend and watch it yourself.

Thats all from me today. Have a nice weekend ahead my friends.
Cheers!

003-Hawaii Five-O. Then and Now

Looks like the past is revisiting 2010. Pretty much something like blast from the past! We already have 90210 which was a remake of the olden Beverly Hills 90210. Well in today's post I would like to talk about the legendary television series Hawaii Five-O (1968-1980) that made a comeback. Like the original version, it follows an elite unit that was set-up to fight crime in the state of Hawaii. The latest cast line-up consists of Alex O'Loughlin as Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett, Scott Caan as Danny "Danno" Williams, Daniel Dae Kim as Chin Ho Kelly, and Grace Park as Kono Kalakaua.

Before discussing further on the latest version of Hawaii Five-O, let us take a stroll down memory lane. The reason why the original show was a huge catch and manage to last 12 season is because its signature style.  Most people remember only three things about the show: its theme music, Jack Lord’s triumphant catchphrase “Book ‘em, Danno!,” and Lord’s haircut which waved like the surrounding palm trees.

Many would think that new Hawaii Five-O is just another gussied up TV re-launch. However, Hawaii's premier episode was fun and unexpectedly swift. The action sequences were well choreographed, so far. Moreover, O’Loughlin has come most alive when he was engaged in the premiere’s close-quarters, elbow-chopping fight scene.
There is no point of me praising this show if you my readers do not check it out for yourself. So head of to your couch, get the remote and press channel 701 (AXN) every Tuesday 10pm,
Cheers,

002-USA TV more gay friendly

I found this article entitled as above very very interesting and enlightening. Therefore, I decided to use this topic as my post for the week. Just so you readers know, I picked out this article from The Star, 14th Nov 2010, Starmag section. Homosexuality has always been a taboo in our society especially in the Asian culture. It is considered an social illness and homosexuals are often shunned and ostracized. However, things are taking a 180 degrees turn and people especially the youths are becoming more open about homosexuality. How can I prove this? Well, the latest trend that the media and entertainment industry is picking up is a good example.

"The Good Wife" is getting a gay brother, the show "Hellcats" features a lesbian cheerleader and many more. The number of lesbians, bisexuals, gays and trans-gender characters on prime time US television is growing.

Second from left: Glee star Chris Colfer who plays a gay teenager
(Kurt) and he is also gay in real life

-"Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) president Jarrett Barrios said that the increase in gay and lesbian characters on TV reflects the shift in American culture towards greater awareness and understanding of our community"-excerpt of the The Star

The recent success of shows like Modern Family, Glee and Ugly Betty are obvious indicators that the audience are beginning to embrace homosexuality as something OK.

The bullock-cart days are over. We are living in the era where streets are adorned by Maseratis and Z4s. If we can advance in technology and science, why can't we advance our mentality and be open to change. Americans have open their arms to gays and lesbians and have began to treat them as an equal. Therefore, it is high time for us to come to terms with homosexuality for the better good.

Cheers!
